HSDPA 3G network Announced in UK

NEC G3 PhoneLooks like the boys and girls “over the pond” will be getting an upgraded HSDPA across the national O2 network by Q3 of 2006, according to the UK Register. Cingular has announced that they will be doing a similar upgrade to their 3G network capabilities here in the US using HSDPA (High Speed Data Packet Access). Currently, Cingular is offering enhanced data speeds via EDGE, but it is not even close to EV-DO that is currently on the market. Cingular hopes this will meet the same wireless broadband speeds currently being offered by Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless over their EV-DO networks. Currently both Sprint Nextel and Verizon are offering 400-700Kbps speeds on average, with bursts up to 4Mbps. Yes, that is faster than your mother’s DSL.
