It should come as no surprise that companies like Intel are cashing in big time as the popularity of wireless technology and wireless systems grow. SF Gate reports today that the city of San Francisco will be issuing a request for proposals from network builders to create one of the largest citywide wifi networks in the United States. Mayor Gavin Newsome has made citywide internet access a priority in his tenure in San Francisco.

In more 3G HSDPA news this week, Ericsson successfully upgraded Tokyo’s Vodafone commercial network to support HSDPA. The software and hardware upgrades that were implemented support downstream rates of up to 3.6Mbps and 384Kbps up.
